Unfortunately not everything goes right in the beginning. We were very lucky
that all you are seeing here are the precautionary steps that West Hills Hospital
takes when there is even a "remote" possibility of a lung infection
or lung immaturity. After an excruciating 3 days of waiting, all blood cultures
came back to ease our mind, that Zack's lungs were PERFECT. After he was born
he had some labored breathing so the docs did an x-ray and saw some fluid
in his lungs. The fluid turned out to be nothing, it disappeared within 24
hours of birth. But, since Zack was born at 37 weeks there was a fear that
it could be indicative of lung immaturity or a lung infection. We were MORE
than relieved to see these heart monitors off of him and to feed him without
a tube after only a day. It was a hard time for us though...scary. We feel
quite blessed that he is perfectly ok:)
